[ TBOS TECH ] How Smartpak Delivers Unprecedented Scalability

The Tanktwo Smartpak is a modular battery pack that can be stacked in three dimensions to achieve any required capacity. Product designers and operations teams can scale up their battery solution simply by adding as many modules as they need to build battery packs of virtually any size and shape.

We further increase reliability by limiting the number of connections and eliminating cabling among modules. Additionally, cabling takes up a lot of space, which reduces a batter pack’s energy density. Simply put, our technology delivers more power with the same weight and volume using existing battery chemistry.

Another unique aspect of the Smartpak is that operators can easily extend the battery pack after delivery and implementation by adding more modules at any time. The system has the built-in intelligence to rearrange the connections to accommodate the new blocks.

Tanktwo Smartpak: A new level of convenience and versatility

But you may wonder, don’t the modules need a similar state of charge (SoC) to avoid drastic voltage differences that can cause extreme internal currents?

While SoC difference among modules is a concern for typical battery systems, it’s not a consideration for Smartpaks because our system module voltage is stabilized through software and doesn’t depend on SoC.

Meanwhile, the technology allows the mix and match of cells with different chemistries. Such flexibility is unheard of in any existing battery solution. It enables operators to expand or reconfigure their battery packs on the fly to achieve almost infinite scalability.

Let’s say you have an installed base built with Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry. Our technology allows you to use lithium-ion cells if you need to add capacity later but don’t have LFP cells available. This capability works right out of the box — TBOS arranges the internal connections so cells with different chemistries, state of health (SoH) levels, etc., work together seamlessly without any user intervention.

Thanks to our software-defined system, product builders and operators can achieve an unprecedented level of convenience and versatility to scale up and respond to fast-changing conditions on the fly without added costs.
